Carcassonne belongs to France’s 5 most visited sites. The town is renowned both for its medieval castle and for the Canal du Midi, which both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. But Carcassonne is also famous for its international music festival which has been recognised by France’s Federation for International music festivals. The festival takes place within the castle’s fortifications every summer.
Carcassonne lies in the plains between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, between the Pyrenees and the Cevennes mountains, and between commercial routes linking Toulouse, Barcelona and Montpellier together. The town has a lot to offer, from historical tours to gastronomic excursions to trips immersed in nature. There’s a lot of sightseeing to do inside the city in itself due to the city’s rich cultural past : the fortified castle, the Bastide Saint Louis, museums, churches, public parks and gardens…Moreover, it is also possible to discover and to try Corbières wines as well as other regional wines there.
